Provinzialkonzil (Prov. Armagh); 1162
An Armagh provincial synod summoned by archbishop Gilla meic Liac, who used the occasion to assert his primacy over the whole of Ireland. In an attempt to ensure uniformity of doctrine and practice across the country, the synod ordained that only graduates of the cathedral school of Armagh could be made readers (lectores) in the church, but the decree was too ambitious and could not be carried out.
