Provinzialkonzil; 1504 (8. Juli)
Summoned to meet at Drogheda on 8 July, the main item of business concerned the divorce of Christopher Plunkett and Catherine Preston, both of whom were members of prominent Anglo-Irish families. Catherine was the daughter of Sir William Preston, who at the time was engaged in military operations in Galway, where he helped the lord deputy of Ireland defeat the forces of Uileag Burke of Clanricard at the battle of Knockdoe on 19 August 1504. The scandal was made worse by the fact that Plunkett managed to obtain absolution from excommunication from the bishop of Ardagh, a decision that the council rejected. The matter was referred to King Henry VII, but we do not know how it was finally resolved.
