Clonfert

Provinzialkonzil (Prov. Dublin); 1179

A Dublin provincial synod presided over by archbishop Laurence O’Toole (1162-1180) on his return from the third Lateran Council in Rome. It legislated against lay control of churches, and against the ordination of the sons of bishops and priests. It also deprived seven laymen of episcopal lands that they had illegally occupied.
