Provinzialkonzil; 1518
Only the ten canons enacted at this synod have survived. They forbade clergy from the provinces of Tuam and Armagh from coming to Dublin without proper authorization, probably a sign of tensions between the Gaelic and English parts of the Irish church. The numerous Gaelic clergy already in the province were ordered to pay their dues to the archbishop, under threat of excommunication, and most of the remaining canons censured abuses of church property by both clergy and laymen. The most interesting canon is the eighth, which levied a fine on clergy caught playing football on church grounds – the only mention of the game in any canonical record.
